- Make a rectangular selection around the edge of the image
- Select-toggle quick mask (or click the icon at very left bottom)
- Filters-Gaussian blur (or Noise-spread, Distorts-Newsprint ...)
- select-goggle quick mask again
- select-invert
- edit-fill in with BG color
